Eligibility Criteria for the Membership of SLIAg

(As per the amended Article 7 of the constitution)

  • Membership is open only for Sri Lankan citizens.

  • Associate Members, Professional Members, Professional Fellows and Honorary Fellows are recognized with the titles of ASLIAg, MSLIAg, FSLIAg and Hon. FSLIAg, respectively.
  • Undergraduates in a UGC-recognized four (4) year Agriculture Degree programme shall be eligible to apply for Student Membership upon successful completion of the first year of the undergraduate study.
  • Affiliated Membership could be obtained as described below.
    1. A graduate with a Student Membership for a minimum of one year duration
    2. A Graduate with a UGC-recognized four (4) year agriculture or agriculture-related degree programme or any other related discipline
    3. Graduates from a UGC-recognized three (3) year agriculture-related degree programme or any other related discipline after graduation and completed two (2) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation
    4. Diploma holders in agriculture with a minimum of National Vocational Qualification level 6 (NVQ-6) or equivalent, with ten (10) years of working experience in agriculture since obtaining the diploma, and passing the qualifying examination conducted by the SLIAg
    5. Diploma holders in agriculture who are qualified with a minimum of National Vocational Qualification level 6 (NVQ-6) or equivalent, with ten (10) years of working experience in agriculture since obtaining the diploma, having relevant postgraduate qualifications or equivalent
  • Associate Membership could be obtained as described below.
    1. A graduate obtaining the Affiliated membership after being a Student Member, and after completing four (4) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation
    2. An Affiliated member after completing five (5) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation
    3. Graduates in a UGC-recognized four (4) year agriculture-related course or any other related discipline after completing six (6) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation
    4. Graduates in a UGC-recognized three (3) year agriculture-related course or any other related discipline completing eight (8) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation
  • Professional Membership could be obtained as described below.
    1. An Associate Member after completing five (5) years of work experience in agriculture since being an Associate Member
    2. Graduates in a UGC-recognized four (4) year agriculture-related course or any other related discipline completing ten (10) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation, and having postgraduate qualifications
    3. Graduates in a UGC-recognized three (3) year agriculture-related course or any other related discipline completing twelve (12) years of work experience in agriculture since graduation, and having postgraduate qualifications
    4. All Life Members of SLOAP during the transitional period of SLOAP to SLIAg, as per the constitution adopted at the 1st AGM.
  • Professional Fellowship could be obtained as described below.
    1. Professional Members having fifteen (15) years professional practice in the relevant specialty since obtaining postgraduate qualifications
    2. SLOAP members having ten (10) years professional practice in the relevant specialty since obtaining post-graduate qualifications as per the constitution adopted at the 1st AGM.
  • The committee comprising minimum of three members appointed by the GC shall review all applications and recommend the appropriate membership for each applicant to the GC. The GC will approve the Affiliated, Associate and Professional Memberships.
  • The eligibility of Professional Fellows will be evaluated and recommended by the GC in consultation with relevant expertise. Fellowships will be approved by the majority of two third of the membership at the Annual or Special General Meeting.
  • Honorary fellows are identified based on the selection criteria prepared by the GC and approved at the AGM
  • Nominations for Honorary Fellowships submitted by the memberships and recommended by the GC should be approved at the AGM.
  • Processing fee is LKR 1,000.00
  • Subscription for membership categories

    • a. Student Member fee is exempted (only registration fee is charged)
    b. Affiliated Member fee is LKR 4,000.00
    c. Associate Member fee is LKR 6,000.00
    d. Professional Membership fee is LKR 10,000.00
    e. Professional Fellowship fee is 15,000.00.
    f. Honorary Fellows are exempt from the membership fees.

  • When the required qualifications are met as specified in Article 7 for the membership categories of Student member, Affiliated member, Associated and professional member, then members are eligible to apply for upgrading the membership categories. When the Governing Council approves the request for upgrading to the respective membership category, the respective member has to pay the balance payment due for the upgraded category as a one-time payment. Student membership is valid maximum for a period of 3 years/ until the respective degree program completes.
